My Lifetime

My Lifetime is the official web site for the cable television channel Lifetime. It is technically known as mylifetime.com. It has a standard design with the major categories such as ontv, video, games, style, entertainment, health, photo fun, quizzes, blogs, astrology, sweeps, shop and community featured prominently at the top in the form of a bar. Each category contains drop down menus.

The site contains its own search engine, powered by google. It features highlights from the day’s TV schedule with its own TV schedule icon strategically placed. Upcoming shows have a display with links to articles about them. Crosslinks to other fashion and beauty web sites can be seen as well.

The web site also includes links to other facets of Lifetime besides its place in the media world. Links to various web sites under community suggests that Lifetime has a higher mission than achieving high ratings merely to attract advertisers. There’s a “breast cancer” link, an “end violence” link, and “eat healthy” link therein. The design of the web site is fairly straightforward—no curveballs and nothing really fancy.

It also has a “Games” portal for the kids. There, games, astrology and sweepstakes and contests are featured, again for the kids. You can join the web site, but it is uncertain what the advantage to that would be. It is not heavily promoted. And what would a television site be without video? You can watch previews and old shows of Rita Rocks. It’s a cornucopia of entertainment for the whole family.
