The Lifetime network was started in the 1980’s, and the movies on the network were so popular, the Lifetime Movie Network spun off in the 90’s, and the world of made-for-tv movies was never the same.  At any time of the day you can see original movies and miniseries that focus on women, and particularly, the issues that modern women face.  The movies are meant to be inspirational and informative; if you look at a list of movies on Lifetime Movie Network, you’ll find romance, justice, documentary, and thriller, to name just a few categories.

When the network first started, it showed movies about many topics that weren’t dealt with by other networks, like abused women, women who had murdered their husbands, and women struggling with issues in the modern world.  Although people joked that Tracey Gold and Meredith Baxter starred in every movie, it can’t be denied that the Lifetime Movie Network brought something to the viewing audience that wasn’t there before.  And it’s gaining in popularity; the Lifetime Movie Network commercials are widely and frequently broadcast on cable television.

The recent Lifetime Network Coco Chanel miniseries was a lavishly made and star-studded movie that brought many viewers in.  And the Lifetime Movie Network’s schedule during December is all Christmas movies, which is also extremely popular.  For many years, October has been the Lifetime Network Breast Cancer Awareness Month, with movies, commercials, and public service announcements all focusing on breast cancer awareness.

The Lifetime Movie Network gives the viewers programming about women, for women, and from a woman’s perspective.
