Once In A Lifetime

When people think of a once in a lifetime event quite often it will involve romance. It may be on a tropical island or next to a cozy fire in some far away cabin but one thing is for sure. It will never be forgotten.

I suspect that the average once in a lifetime event will involve risk because it is this element of danger or loss that really kicks things up a notch. For sure there are people who have had several once in a lifetime experiences and there are other people who could say nothing significant has ever happened to them. I like to think that my once in a lifetime event hasn’t happened yet. But if I were to pick an experience from my past, I think it would be getting on a plane and flying halfway across the world to a strange land to meet a woman I had never seen before with the intention of marrying her.

The woman in question is now my wife and the place that I flew to was Kiev, a city so old that it predates its own written history.

I didn’t know when I finally met her in person that I would fall in love with her, but I was hopeful and I didn’t know if she would fall in love with me. I stayed there eight days and we went on a date every day I was there, site seeing, going to the movies and just sitting with a cup of coffee, talking.

Well we did fall in love. It was truly an adventure, a once in a lifetime adventure.

David Byrne’s bizarre songwriting and the band’s offbeat, against-the-grain song structures helped signify them as worthy of such accolades. ‘Once in a Lifetime’ is arguably the band’s signature song.
