Love of a Lifetime
Love of a Lifetime is Firehouse’s hit single peaking at #5 on the Billboard Hot 100. It came out around the late 80s, early 90s, and although it did not exactly make Firehouse a household name, the group did win a legion of fans because of its sultry, romantic sound.
It is a love ballad that has been utilized by couples at their weddings for their first song. The song was inked by C.J. Snare who claims he wrote it while playing solo at a Holiday Inn. Perfect place to write a song, isn’t it? When the group shopped around for a record deal, they went to Epic where they presented the executive with an album. He said the album needed a ballad and asked for one. Snare whipped out Love of a Lifetime, and the executive loved it and awarded the band a record deal.
The group styled itself into becoming part of that genre known as “hair bands” with their long manes and metallic look. They managed to survive the grunge era without missing a beat, to tour the United States in 2005. C.J. Snare is the lead vocalist and keyboard player and lyricist as well. They stuck to their guns while everyone else was donning flannel shirts and jeans. Back in 1991, they were up against Alice in Chains and Nirvana at the American Music Awards. Now, Snare quips, he is the only one still alive. They also survived the death of their bass player in 2003 to stay together.
