Lifetime Television
Lifetime television is a network that features movie, shows, and sitcoms that spotlight women in leading roles, or women issues.
The network was established in March of 1982, and now features such popular programming as The Golden Girls, Reba, Still Standing, and Will & Grace. This network has been instrumental in brings such issues that are important to women like rape, domestic violence and breast cancer. Some women state that they feel that the information that they glean from this network has helped them overcome some of lives most challenging issues.
The networks sister stations are LMN (Lifetime Movie Network) LMN shows movies that are produced for women and about women. Launching in June 1998, it had quickly become the most successful launch in Lifetimes Television history. In August 2001, Lifetime Television added its second sister station entitled Lifetime Real Women.
Some of the original programs include: Style, Any Day Now, and Things We Do For Love. Overall, the network is proud to be in 10 million homes daily. I believe that this network is doing well to bring to light those issues that some women might not like to talk about or even think about.
Many women need to have a source of outlet to express them. Many men also are finding that they are watching such programming, and finding that they too enjoy the programming. Some men have stated that they find themselves in a better state of understanding towards women by watching the women based programming.
The network was proud to find that the whole family is watching and enjoying all the programming.

Lifetime Television was launched on February 1984. In 1995 it was rebranded “Television for Women” thanks to corporate sales and mergers. As technology advanced, Lifetime grew and now there are a gaggle of Lifetimes for gals to watch. Specifically: the original, Lifetime Television (1984), Lifetime Movie Network (launched 1998), Lifetime Digital (1996) and Lifetime Real Women (2001).

Lifetime Television is to women what Disney Channel is to families. It features made-for-TV movies and TV shows about modern women and the problems that they face. Not only modern women, but also women of history are featured such as the movie CoCo that starred Shirley MacLaine as Coco Chanel. Do not think of Lifetime TV as feminist because it is not. Its target audience is mainstream women across America. Let us examine what it has scheduled for this month to determine its genre.
