Lifetime Movies

Lifetime Movies are movies featured by Lifetime, the channel for women. Their movies star prominent Hollywood actresses like Sigourney Weaver, Holly Hunter, and Shirley MacLaine in roles that are often extreme and sometimes controversial. From Coco Chanel to a religious zealot of a mother, Lifetime is never afraid to take a risk with its leading ladies.

Every Thurday, Lifetime television brings you Lifetime movies of the suspense and mayhem genre. Past movies have included My Son, The Matchmaker with that classy actress Ellen Burstyn. This 1996 movie features a woman director, as many of Lifetime Movies do. It’s about an older woman who is revisited by her son, and she fills him in on all the details of her life with his father, her husband, whom she carries the torch for. The son tries to hook them back together in this heartwarming story.

Ultimate Deception is another Thursday night movie from Lifetime. This one has thriller trimmings. A woman is desperate to have a child, and seeks adoption. Her husband returns to the scene, and he is a psycho. He commits murder in order to satisfy her wishes, and all hell brings out. Check this one out for a thriller worth seeing.

The above are examples of past movies worth seeing when they are rerun. Upcoming movies include A Stranger to Love which unlike most Lifetime Movies, features a male protagonist who loses his memory and wanders the streets not knowing who he is. He then befriends a good Samaritan who takes him in. It’s based on a true story so is sure to tickle your curiosity.

These movies have been the subjects of criticism and ridicule over the years, for cliché subject matter that seemingly always has an abused, brave woman fighting back against a domineering, violent and cheating husband or lover, amid perilous odds.

For years, the Lifetime Channel has been a popular television network for women. That even used to be part of its slogan, “television for women”. The network broadcasts a lot of shows and movies geared toward a female audience, and these programs and films usually contain some kind of topic or theme related to domestic violence against women or a woman’s struggle for some cause against a male-dominated society. The movies and programs definitely have tended to have a feministic tone to them, and male characters are usually abusive or antagonistic to the heroine.
